Scope of Project: |
Beach Restoration was hired by the Department of Marine Resources to examine potential solutions for the rehabilitation of Deer Island. The Island was purchased by the State of Mississippi for the purpose of creating a pristine and natural environment. Among the many challenges facing the island, coastal erosion is the most critical. Over the past 50 years Deer Island has lost over 50 acres to natural forces.
Beach Restoration is sending a team of coastal experts to place sophisticated instrumentation throughout the impacted areas and provide a level of analysis and solution development never performed on the island. The multi-phase approach allows the department to truly partner with Beach Restoration and be part of the overall process.
Due to the significant seasonal issues relating to the area and the lack of localized data, Beach Restoration will be performing the analysis using S-4 and ADCP gauges during two distinct seasonal weather environments. The analysis will result in a solution design plan.
